BUGS goes Dutch – on screens big and small

BUGS the Film

BUGS the film hits the big screens in the Netherlands – but you don't even need to leave your couch to see it, thanks to a new initiative called Filmthuis

That said, if you want a real taste of insects, you should come to the Dutch premiere at de Balie cinema in Amsterdam on 20 May. This great event will feature a tasting served by the people from Bugzz.

Following the screening Roberto Flore, Nordic Food Lab’s Head Chef who is also part of the documentary, will take part in a Q&A with one of the most knowledgeable people when it comes to entomophagy: Wageningen University’s Professor Arnold van Huis, who has worked with the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organisation counselling them on the future of edible insects.

Either Roberto or van Huis will also be present for tastings and introductions at a number of the other screenings in Dutch cinemas that are to follow the premiere.

As if all of this wasn’t enough to make for an incredible Dutch launch of BUGS, a revolutionary new initiative will make it all the more impressive. Recently the film’s Dutch distributor, Herrie, has initialized the concept Filmthuis which gives cinemas the opportunity to host screenings in online screening rooms at the same time as the theatrical release.

So it looks like BUGS will receive an amazing welcome in the Netherlands with tastings, Q&As, and a great online presence to boost.

Details for all screenings will be added to our calendar.

You'll be able to find the online screening rooms on the websites of participating cinemas:

“Appealing and appalling” – enthusiastic reviews of the documentary BUGS in Denmark

The DOXBiO launch of BUGS in Denmark saw the film screening in more than 50 cinemas all over the country. A film with such exposure has lured critics to the keyboard, and we’ve also gotten a word or two from experts from the fields of slow food, insects as feed, insects as food, and food experts in a more general sense.
